Computing

Intent

At Wittering Primary School we want our students to be masters of technology. Technology is everywhere and will play a pivotal part in our students’ lives. Therefore, we want to model and educate our students on how to use technology positively, responsibly and safely. We also want our students to be creative, and with our broad curriculum that covers computer science, information technology and digital literacy we feel that we reflect this. We want our students to understand that there is a choice when using technology, and as a school we utilise our technology to model positive use. We recognise that the best prevention for a lot of current issues with technology and social media is through education and positive modelling.

We recognise that technology can allow students to share and expand their learning in creative ways. We also understand the accessibility opportunities technology can provide our students. Our knowledge rich curriculum has to be balanced with the opportunity for the students to apply their knowledge creatively. This will, in turn, help our students become skilled computer scientists.

We encourage staff to try and embed computing throughout the whole curriculum to make learning creative and accessible. We want our students to be fluent with a range of tools to best express their understanding and hope by Year 6 our students have the independence and confidence to choose the best tool to help them fulfil a task set by teachers.
